琉璃神社 Community Resources receives donation of $150K over 3 years

"I couldn't imagine where I'd be, how stuck I would feel if these programs didn't exist, if this place didn't exist"

KCR Community Resources is receiving a boost, thanks to a collaborative effort.

On Thursday, May 15, the Central Okanagan Foundation and accounting firm MNP announced a commitment to donate $150,000 over three years to KCR's The Family Hub program.

"The MNP 琉璃神社 Partners are delighted to announce our continued support for the Central Okanagan Family Hub with a dedicated annual donation of $50,000 for each of the next three years,鈥 said MNP regional managing partner Jennifer Hollis. 鈥淭he positive influence the Family Hub has on our community through connection, education, and collaboration, is deeply inspiring. We believe in their mission and are proud to contribute to their mandate in making a meaningful difference for the families in our community.鈥

The money will help offer reliable funding and interactive programs for vulnerable families at The Family Hub, which is located inside Pearson Elementary School at 700 Pearson Road. Based on research and evidence, the program is a preventative and upstream model to deliver what's best for families and children.

An event to mark the donation was held at The Family Hub on Thursday. A  single mom, with a nine-month-old baby, spoke to the audience of around 50 people at the event.

"I don't think I would've had the strength to continue to be a single mother without the resources that are provided by KCR and the hub," she said. "This space gives a comfortable environment for kids to play, for parents to connect, for me personally, it's my sense of community... I couldn't imagine where I'd be, how stuck I would feel if these programs didn't exist if this place didn't exist."

Many representatives from MNP were also in attendance.

鈥淜nowing that we have this funding for another three years provides us with the stability to plan, to grow, and to respond quickly to changing needs. It allows us to meet families where they are, build trust, and offer timely, meaningful support," said David Brown, president of the board of KCR Community Resources.

The commitment is being made through the MNP Partner Community Fund, which was created in 2021, bringing the total to $300,000 donated since the fund's inception.
