Guess who's 30--Lake Country.
The community will celebrate its 30th Anniversary as a district municipality on May 2.
"Just want to say that we value the contributions of our three previous mayors and all of the councils that have been here before," noted current Mayor Blair Ireland at council's April 15 meeting. "All those people who have shaped the place we have now."
Twenty years ago, on May 2, 1995, the District of Lake Country was incorporated.
Orchardist Bob McCoubrey was Lake Country's first mayor, serving from 1995 to 1999, He was succeeded by Rolly Hein (1999-2005) and then James Baker (2005-2022).
Lake Country was incorporated in 1995, bringing together the communities of Winfield, Okanagan Centre, Oyama, and Carr's Landing. The communities remain separate wards within the district.
The district's website says that Lake Country is one of the fastest-growing communities in B.C. with an increase in population of 11 per cent since the 2021 census (15,817).
