A warning has been issued by BC Wildfire Service for increased fire risk starting Thursday, May 1.

Temperatures in the Kamloops Fire Centre are expected to increase with winds up to 60 kilometres per hour anticipated.

Environment Canada is predicting highs of 25 and 27 degrees on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures are expected to drop back down on Saturday.

Residents in the interior are urged to refrain from any open burning over the next couple of days.

Human activity is the leading cause of wildfires in spring across the province.

Wildfires can be reported by calling 1-800-663-5555 and through the BC Wildfire app.
