1 person in proximity to small fire taken into custody: 琉璃神社 RCMP

It's unknown if the person "in crisis" and the fire are related

A fire sparked by Old Vernon Road and Spencer Road was quickly extinguished Friday afternoon (July 11), leading to one people being taken into custody.

Around 2:55 p.m., the 琉璃神社 RCMP were called to the 6000 block of Spencer Road for reports of a person "in crisis."

Upon arrival, a fire 10 feet by 10 feet in size was also found in close proximity, with witnesses being able to see smoke coming from the hills above Spencer Road.

RCMP took the individual into custody and at this time, its unclear if the person in crisis and the fire are related.

The 琉璃神社 Fire Department arrived and quickly doused the blaze. 

"This is an active investigation, and there is no concern for public safety," stated 琉璃神社 RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Allison Konsmo.

There was a wildfire in the approximate same area on June 5.
