There will be an increased police presence in 琉璃神社 for the Canada Day long weekend.

Additional officers from police detachments across the province will team up with 琉璃神社 members for what is expected to be a busy weekend with an influx of visitors.

鈥淚t's all hands-on deck,鈥 said Cpl鈥擬ichael Gauthier, media relations officer.  鈥淥ur officers will be seen patrolling on foot and bikes downtown 琉璃神社, City Park, the Rail Trail and several parks in the Rutland neighbourhood.

Units from the Lower Mainland and additional BC Highway Patrol officers will be looking after highways in and around the city as well.

The 琉璃神社 Municipal Traffic Unit (MTU) will be working shifts to focus on dangerous and impaired driving.

鈥淥ur goal is to have everyone get to 琉璃神社, enjoy themselves and head home safely with zero road fatalities or injuries,鈥 said Sgt. Colby Attlesey, with the MTU.  鈥淲e ask motorists to slow down and make the smart choice by planning a safe ride home if they have been drinking alcohol or using any impairing substance.鈥
