The hall is alive with the sound of music as spring concerts roll out at Song Sparrow.
Up first in the musical interlude at Salmon Arm's Song Sparrow Hall is Pharis and Jason Romero, a B.C. based husband and wife duo who have been building a loyal following in the folk scene.
With a blend of their refreshing take on traditional songs, and her articulate and poignant songwriting, their previous two albums were full of new compositions the pair wanted to introduce to the folk repertoire. Their latest album, Tell 'Em You Were Gold, delivers music that is equal parts traditional and original.
The four-time Juno Award winners and seven-time Canadian Fold Music Award recipients bring their talent to Song Sparrow on Saturday, May 3. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. followed by the concert at 7:30.
A few weeks later is Colin Linden, whose biography states his "tale is the stuff of legend, the kind told in the Coen brothers’ O Brother Where Art Thou or Inside Llewyn Davis, both of which featured his guitar playing on the soundtracks."
Linden's musical journey began at the age of 11 when he met his musical idol Howlin' Wolf and had a two-hour conversation prior to his matinee show in Toronto. It was then the legendary bluesman told Linden "I'm an old man now, and I won't be around much longer. It's up to you to carry it on."
And that he has, performing since he was 12 years old and leaving home as a teen to travel the south on invitation from Mississippi Sheiks delta blues guitarist Sam Chatmon. Since then, he's accompanied everyone from Bruce Cockburn to Bob Dylan, Greg Allman, Pistol Annies and many more.
Linden's show, presented by the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society, will take place on Saturday, May 24, with doors open at 7 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m.
Up next on the stage is Séan McCann on his Great Big Canadian Road Trip. Sober since 2009, the co-founder of the iconic band Great Big Sea and recipient of the Order of Canada for his mental health and recovery advocacy, McCann has spent the last 10 years touring the country with his guitar "Old Brown."
His current Road Trip is taking him on a tour of small towns with real conversations and the places where people need music the most. He will be a real presence for people, a hand to shake and a chorus to sing along with.
A media release from Song Sparrow, said that while McCann will be travelling alone, he'll still be a part of something bigger.
"His guitar, his stories, and his music will be the bridge between strangers, a reminder that no matter how hard the road gets, we are never truly walking it alone," it reads. "So, town by town, mile by mile, song by song – this is The Great Big Canadian Road Trip. A journey not just of distance, but of belonging."
His Salmon Arm stop will be on Wednesday, June 4 with doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert at 7:30.
Just days later, A Whole New World comes to town, with a concert of legendary Hollywood songs from movie musicals.
The production will bring the greatest hits from Disney and iconic Hollywood musicals. With a live band and professional corps of singers, it's a concert experience sure to enchant audiences of all ages.

Act 2 takes the audience to Hollywood, and will feature songs from The Sound of Music, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia, Grease, Moulin Rouge and Wicked, among other greats.
