What was once ranch land is now a beaming new agricultural park in the North Okanagan.
The Regional District of North Okanagan, Okanagan Indian Band, and the Young Agrarians will host a farm tour and potluck brunch at snc蓹cma艂qtn Agricultural Park on Sunday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 4122 East Vernon Rd.
Previously known as the BX Ranchlands, this property was newly named the snc蓹cma艂qtn Agricultural Park in consultation with the OKIB, to honour the Syilx Territory it is part of.
The world snc蓹cma艂qtn translates to 鈥減lace of small crops or garden."
The spacious site was recently transformed into a public park, farm, and land-sharing project.
"Last year, we opened applications for small farm plots (in collaboration with the B.C. Land Matching Program), and many farmers have now moved into the space," said the RDNO. "Currently, there are still plots available."
You can enjoy a tour of the park, learn about the history of the land, and how the area came to be what it is today.
Haley, the Okanagan-Thompson Land Matcher, will also be there to discuss how the B.C. Land Matching Program can help you to find a farmer for your land, or find land to start or expand your farm business.
