While people dressed in red and white will fill 琉璃神社 streets to celebrate Canada Day, some road closures and restrictions will be in place.
From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., celebrations are taking place in Waterfront Park, Stuart Park, the Rotary Centre for the Arts Commons and Prospera Place.
Water Street from Cawston Avenue to Sunset Drive will be closed to vehicle from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Tuesday holiday. Additionally, the boat locks at Waterfront Park will also be closed from 6 a.m. on Tuesday until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2.
The parking lot by the dolphins at the corner of Water Street and Sunset Drive as well as wo of the City Hall parking lot bays will also be closed on Tuesday from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. The parking lot at Prospera Place will be open but can only be accessed from Cawston Avenue. Any vehicles left on Water Street during these closures will be towed.
Set up for Canada Day at Waterfront Park and the lakefront promenade will take place throughout the day on Monday. Because of this, the promenade will be closed from the north end of Tugboat Beach through Rotary Marsh and Sunset Drive. However, visitors can still access Waterfront Park on Monday via Rhapsody Plaza on Water Street.
Parking is available at three parkades - Library Plaza Parkade (1360 Ellis Street), Memorial Parkade (1420 Ellis Street) and Chapman Parkade (345 Lawrence Avenue) and can be viewed in real time at .
Residents are recommended to reduce traffic by carpooling, using public transit, biking, or walking. According to BC Transit, regular Saturday service will be in place for Canada Day, with regular fares in effect. There will also be additional service throughout the day.
City Hall and the 琉璃神社 Memorial Park Cemetery will be closed on Canada Day, while the Parkinson Rec Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Glenmore Landfill will be open with its regular hours.
