A Salmon Arm youth is being recognized by 4-H British Columbia for having "truly risen to the occasion" with her first year calf project.
On June 20, the provincial organization took to social media with a member spotlight on Karis, a first year member of the Deep Creek 4-H Dairy Club, with her calf Anemone. In the post, 4-H BC said that while her family was initially nervous it might be overwhelming for her, Karis "embraced the challenge with heart and determination."
"With the steady support of her 4-H leaders and the encouragement of her club, Karis has grown in confidence and knowledge. 'Mom, I'm so proud of what I've learned already', she shared just last Friday 鈥 a moment that perfectly sums up her journey so far."
Living in a small community and navigating life on the spectrum, Karis has found a welcoming space in 4-H, for which her mom is very grateful.
"We鈥檙e so grateful 4-H is accessible for small city kids. Deep Creek 4-H Club has been incredibly welcoming, creating a supportive, inclusive space where Karis can grow, build confidence, and learn alongside others," said mother Sylvia Meikle. "Her leaders have nurtured her love for animals, and her dairy project has truly sparked something in her. Watching her care for her calf, Anemone, with dedication and heart has been a rewarding experience.鈥
