Kyre Dawn Smith, left, and her daughter Pixie Craven are enjoying sweet success with Can't Resist Cookies in Sicamous.

Kyre Dawn Smith has baked up a sweet new business that you Can鈥檛 Resist.

Can't Resist Cookies is taking Sicamous 鈥 and beyond 鈥 tastebuds by storm since Smith first started making her creative cookies a year-and-a-half ago.

"I just started making recipes, and trying to figure out what works and what doesn鈥檛 work. The Lemony Bomb is a snickerdoodle base but it took me five different types of cookies to make it work... and now it's perfect," she said. "It鈥檚 just been a matter of trying different recipes.鈥

Smith currently has about 12 flavours in her recipe book, but is currently working on a Key Lime cookie and a Ginger Giant as per a request. She has also put out a Facebook post asking people to suggest ideas they鈥檇 like her to try making and will 鈥渟ee what we can re-imagine,鈥 with a team of willing taste testers on hand.

Each cookie is six ounces of deliciousness, with the decision to go big or go home a way to do something different and 鈥渟omething that stands out.鈥 Additionally, most have a filling 鈥 ganache, frosting, caramel, etc. 鈥 which requires a larger size.

In addition to making her cookies from scratch, Smith also makes her own vanilla, which takes eight months to a year, with vanilla beans soaked in whichever alcohol of choice. Though time-consuming, she said it鈥檚 easy and has no additives, whereas even pure vanilla in the store will have a shelf stabilizer. When time allows, she also tries to make her own butter as much as possible, using D Dutchmen Dairy milk.

鈥淚 enjoy cooking," she said of her dedication to the craft. "My mom and dad used to own a resort in the Kootenays and my mom always had the best baking.鈥

That has also been passed down to Smith's 13-year-old daughter PIxie Craven, who currently helps at the booth, and will soon be joining her mom in sweet success with handmade cinnamon buns as soon as she gets her Food Safe in the next week or so.

While Smith has been a regular vendor at the Sicamous Farmers Market since the Morel Market in May, when the season ends, she'll be in the process of building an online business currently on Facebook, but is working on a website as well.

She鈥檒l ship her cookies across Canada and has already sent out eight orders to places like Saskatchewan, Calgary, Sooke and, for locals, can arrange delivery. The cookies have a shelf life of about seven days, and can be frozen and be good for months.
