Century-old Naramata Inn back open with new French restaurant

Bistro Lapin Perdu opened its doors on May 16, five months after the inn shut down due to 'challenging conditions for tourism and hospitality'

New life has been injected into the historic Naramata Inn.

French-style restaurant Bistro Lapin Perdu has officially opened inside the more than 100-year-old building. The previous operators of the inn closed down the business on Jan. 1, 2025.

Longtime Penticton restaurateurs Christopher Royal and Michael Ziff are behind the new bistro, which welcomed guests for the first time on May 16.

"Part countryside auberge, part lakeside legend, and entirely Naramata, the menu will feature familiar French dishes — and a little Quebecois flair — like Tartare de Boeuf, Steak Frites, and Confit de Canard, as well as a curated wine list equal parts Okanagan and equal parts French," according to a release.

, the Naramata Inn's rooms are also reopening for guests.

"We look forward to welcoming longtime guests or those who have just discovered us for the first time," it reads.

Before this month, the Naramata Inn held its last dinner service on Dec. 30, 2024. In a social media post just days later, its owners cited "continued challenging conditions for tourism and hospitality" as the reason for closing.

After its doors closed, the Naramata Hospitality Limited Partnership said was it "committed to the preservation of this important historical property and will be investing in maintaining it in excellent condition."

Spearheaded by Royal and Ziff, the opening of Bistro Lapin Perdu represents the newest chapter for the Naramata Inn.

Royal is the owner of Pizzeria Tratto Napoletana and Chulo Tapas & Bar, both in downtown Penticton.

Ziff, meanwhile, has made his mark at Vancouver’s St. Lawrence and Hawksworth. Locally, the restaurateur has been involved with Poplar Grove Restaurant and Home Block at CedarCreek Estate Winery.

The Naramata Inn was built in the early 1900s and is said to have welcomed some of the Okanagan's first tourists.

It is located at 3625 First St.
